Re: People actually think this???

I'm not a psychiatrist, but it seems to me that she has some sexual abuse issues. She says "sucking on your breasts" instead of "Nursing". Then goes on to say that breastfeeding children with teeth are bluring "sexual boundaries"? I don't know about anyone else, but I think those are definite red flags. Then her ignorant side comes out and she says it's "icky". Come on now...are we in kindergarten? It's upsetting to me and sad at the same time, that some people would take something so natural and beautiful and try to turn it into something so negative. I honestly feel sorry for that woman...she must have a pretty screwed up view of the world. I hope whomever received that email didn't take it to heart!

Angry Re: People actually think this???

Ohhhh. That makes me good and angry..... And incoherent. What ..... oirnosdfgn;dohl;gn. GACK! Blurring sexual boundaries? Can only nurse a toothless child? My ds had teeth at 4 months! Should only still be nursing if in the 3rd world? Oh, I'm mad.

Re: People actually think this???

When I see crapola like this I just think of a gianting lighting bolt coming out of the sky and smoting the person. It makes me laugh. There is just too much ignorance out there, sadly.

When I was pg, I swore that I would nurse until a year and then start weaning because having a child that could ask for it would be somewhat weird to me. Now, 7 months strong (she really has little interest in solids and occasionally will gum some treat) I feel it is up to her. Interestingly, DH (who was never BF) is all for me going until whenever. His rearing is not quite the same so I am not sure how he ended up so pro-nursing and unique to his family If I had stopped when DD could ask for the boob, I would have had to quit when she was 1.5 months old. I noticed that she would cry differently so I started calling the breast by the same sound she made when she was hungry. After a week or two of that she would indicate when she was hungry for it. A month or two later, DH caught me saying it to her and he teased me that I was reading too much into in. Then, one night while I was studying for an exam and he was feeding her pumped milk he came in shocked and said she pushed the bottle away and wailed out what I told him she had been saying. She has been asking for the boob forever and I am not going to stop giving it to her.

OMG!!!!.....total ignorance. In what culture is she living in that this is totally backwards ? I sure hope the poster got much better support from the others who replied to her post. So sad that the other mama truly thinks this way.

Moron. My DD was breastfed until 2 1/2 she only just recently self weaned. I have been wanting to have her weaned since 18 months but she needed it so I continued.
That being said I would not let my 2 1/2 year old pour her own milk!
Its ignorant but sadly that's what most people think. You should have seen the stares I got when I went into the mother's lounge at church to nurse my daughter after she turned 2 because she was having a fit. You would have thought I was sporting horns and a tail or something.

Good point! I guess we'd all better wean our newborns the minute they start making the "booby cry", because they're technically asking for it!
