Turn it upside down and pop the bottom of the jar really hard. I think it helps to release the seal as well.

A lot of times if the jar has been opened before the hot water trick will work, because it thins out any food or anything that might be sticking the lid to the jar. I was about ready to break open the maple syrup the other day when I remembered the hot water thing. It worked perfectly!

Running under hot water does two things. One remove any food that was on the the threads during capping and two warms up the metal making it softer. I use to work in QC in food factory. You can call the 800 number and complain. Sometimes the machines put the lids on with too much torque. You might get some coupons.
