Bedwetter pants for a 9yo

I'm going to try to make some night-time "undies" aka "bedwetter pants" for my 9yo niece. She still regularly wets the bed (as did her mom and my other sis until at least puberty - they think it's hormonal) and has just been wearing regular pull-ups. The pull-ups can't handle the volume anymore and her mom can't afford the GoodNights for older kids.

So... what would be the best, trimmest, most absorbent material to use for a soaker? Microfiber? Bamboo? Something else? How much should I use? Hmmm maybe I should do a stuffable pocket pant...

I'm going to do PUL on the outside, and I'm also planning to make some wool soaker shorts (probably 2-layer interlock) with a matching t-shirt for pajamas, so she has something discreet but very waterproof for sleepovers. I'm hoping she'll get a kick out of them.
