What does the popcorn smiley mean here?

I see it a lot on threads here and am not sure what it means.

At a board that I frequent, if someone pulls out the popcorn smiley in response to a question, it means that they know the thread is going to get heated - so they're going to sit down with their popcorn and "watch the show."

The meaning here seems different - but I haven't been able to discern quite what. Just interest? Fill a newbie in!

Thanks
Julia

Here it generally means they want to see the responses as well.

Different meanings, I suppose.

Yes - may be used as a "Ohhhh. This is going to get heated" AND as a "Oh! Great question! I'd like to know the answer, too"

Re: What does the popcorn smiley mean here?

Ok, so there's not necessarily a negative connotation? I've seen it most often on threads about various brands and originally thought that there were "dirty little secrets" about who made them or something and someone was going to come out, guns blazing, saying nasty things about the brand and who makes them. 'Cause that's probably what it would mean at the (non-CD) board I'm on most.

Thanks for clearing it up I think I'm too used to the drama LOL

I thought the same thing when I first started here. People kept using it in threads that I started and I thought they were being snarky and rude! Finally I asked and was told that it meant they are also interested in the responses. That's what it means if I use it!

I take it to mean what do others think/more responses.

I use it when I am watching and waiting to see the replies or when I don't have anything to say but I am interested.
