I'd get some premiums, which are the next smallest size. Save those for later/last minute changing pad/whatever. If you've really got too much width, the premiums could be your answer.

Before you trim your prefold you might want to try this: fold the diaper into thirds and see how the width is. Maybe open a velcro cover and lay the trifolded diaper in it, slide both under your baby. Pull the trifolded prefold up (it will probably go up way, way way up on his belly). But just for the sake of experimenting, though, you could pull the cover up and let the prefold just stick up out of the front. The excess that pokes out is what you would want to trim off. If the width of the diaper is still way too much, then maybe you would do best with premiums and save the toddler pf's for later. But if the width is okay, I'd say trim away!

We have a stack of premium prefolds that we've trimmed to 14-15", and they work well for both my 7mo and my 24mo. My next batch I'll probably do just slightly longer. Maybe 15-16" They fit very trim. We use BSWW's (mediums), and it is quite easy to fit their pants and jeans over the top without a bubble-bum look. Since there is no bulk at the hips it is all quite trim. And as far as absorbancy...the premiums have been quite sufficient. We haven't had any need to add doublers, and I'm not one to change my baby every hour either. More like a change at each feeding.

Hope that helps!

yours look really trim to me...perhaps fold in the waist more...also what cover are you trying over it? We only had a problem with proraps not fitting but BSWW and WWB fit very well and are still trim! Also, we pin and do not use snappis. I do not know if that makes a difference but at 30.4 pounds we are already in toddler prefolds anyway so a snappi just is too small for DS.

The thighs are loose? I guess it just looks pretty good compared to what we always get if we try prefolds!

What covers are you using? Even I could get a BSWW on over a prefold!
