What if Nikolas weans???

Nikolas is still 98% BF'd. He eats a small amount (think 1-2 teaspoons) of yogurt with me in the morning and about 1/2 TB of food for dinner about 3 times a week. (Is that even 2%??? ).

I have to be honest and say that I am worried about him weaning now that I am pregnant. I do not know what to do if he does. Do I have to put him on formula? Do I just start full-on solids? Both of those seem harsh to me.

I am going to start pumping because as much as it would upset me to have to feed him from a bottle I would rather him be getting breastmilk than formula.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. This is my major stress area right now, with a close second being whether or not our insurance will cover a birth center, which I am calling today to find out!

Thanks mamas.

Re: What if Nikolas weans???

No advice here, but wanted to say congrats on the pregnancy, and to let you know that lots of babies nurse through their mother's pregnancy. If he does seem to start to wean, then I would start introducing more solids. I think he is 10ish months old, right? If he isn't nursing, then he will be hungry and more open to other food. I wouldn't go with formula, but that is just because I never though my LO would drink it after having mama's milk. Well, looks like I did have some advice, but who knows how good it is?

Re: What if Nikolas weans???

He is the same age as my DS when I got preggo with DD

You really need to drink a ton of water. In the very beginning I noticed I have like no milk but I also wasnt drinking enough water, I mahorly uped that and my DS was able to nurse through my whole pregnancy!

I see no reason why you would have to give him formula!!!!!!! If you are worried start giving a little more solids here and there or pump in case. Your milk shouldnt really get low until towards the end.

As long as you eat good and drink A TON of water you should be fine. Some women do find their supply drops in the 2nd trimester or 3rd. But he is almost a year old, I think you'll be fine!

and WOOHoo for #2!

Thanks Diana!

I am currently floating from all of the water I've been drinking!

I will keep it up and also do the other things you suggested. A few more solids and pumping!
