Anyone have their vaxed child come down with chicken pox? Update: It is CP.

Update: It is chicken pox.

My 10 y/o who was vaccinated for Chicken Pox has a rash of small red bumps. They are all over his abdomen and neck and there are some on his arms and legs. It all started yesterday with what looked like a boil on the inside of his wrist. They itch and he has never been allergic to anything before. WDYT?

Re: Anyone have their vaxed child come down with chicken pox?

Not sure...I think if it's chicken pox it will get worse if you put him in a cool bath...or is it warm? Vaxed kids DO get them though. The boys' school sent home a note a while back warning parents of children who were not vaxed for religious reasons to be on the lookout because there were 4 cases of CP in the school. When I called the administrator to ask about it, she told me that all four kids WERE vaxed...so why send a note to parents of kids that were not vaxed?!?! Anyway...that's another rant!

Hope your guy gets to feeling better...

I called my pediatrician and I am taking him in tomorrow morning. But, get this... when I get there, the dr. will come see him in the car. They are that worried about the contagiousness of chicken pox. I was a little surprised by that. He said that it is unusual, but you can still get it after having the vaccine. Another kid in his class had them a couple of months ago and I am pretty sure he was vaxed.

They don't want him to come in b/c kids who are vaxed are almost as likely to catch them At least they are willing to come look at him, when both of mine got it, they refused to see us. If it is the CP, you need to report to VEARS.

It's really common to get the CP from the shot. I'm surprised they are willing to even see him at all. LOL

My friends Ds has had mild doses of the Chicken pox three times, he was given the shot before Kindergarten all three times he was in elementary school. I used to send Ds over to see him, hoping he'd catch it.

From what I can tell, it's not uncommon at all for vaxed kids to get the CP! In fact, if you read what the CDC has to say about the vax, it tells you that lots of kids still get it after having the vax "but it's usually a milder case" (which is a really handy way of CYA when you're admitting that your vax doesn't work!) I agree though, if it is the CP, make sure it's reported to VAERS...

mama, the chicken pox vac does not take away the chance of getting the pox, but it is merely to lessen the severity of it.

Re: Anyone have their vaxed child come down with chicken pox?

The doctor confirmed it is chicken pox! Luckily, he only has a mild case. There are 4 kids in his class of 23 who have come down with it as of today.

I am wondering about the rest of us. I never had CP as a child and I got the vaccine as an adult. I suppose we shall see.

Please tell me who I need to report it to and how to get in touch with them. I definitely want to do that.

Thanks!
