When do I have to call the doctor?sick baby?

Ds2 is has a fever of 103.1 after 30 mins of taking his tylenol. He has a runny nose, sneezes, really bad cough(which keeps him up), he is congested and is in a general bad mood. He is really sleepy and is pretty uncomfortable. I also think he might have an ear infection.

At what point to I need to call the doctor?

hi,
i think a temp. means you should call asap, at least speak to an advice nurse.

also, push the liquids (even water if necessary) and the tylenol .
for congestion, the only reccomend. thing is saline drops and bulb syringe. Even i use saline drops in my nose ...they are gentle and effective.
a study was recently published saying saline was more effective and safer than cold medicine in children for congestion.

I'd call. I'm not sure what age this stops, but I know with children they would like to see the temp stay under 102. Otherwise, my dr said come in if a fever remains for more than 3 days or if the child is lethargic and uninterested in playing.

With the congestion, I ditto the non-medicated saline drops and then the bulb syringe. He'll hate it, but it works best. And then at night consider a humidifier (maybe with Vicks, if you have that kind) and Ibuprofen.

Re: When do I have to call the doctor?sick baby?

For the cough, try vicks vapor rub. I put it on their chests and on the bottoms of their feet. Works really well. Way better than a cough med and it lasts all night.

From what you've said, it sounds like your LO has the flu. You can take your LO in if you want, but all they're going to say is "yes, he has the flu, use tylenol and motrin piggybacked and let it run its course." For what it's worth, the fever lasted 4 days when it went thru our house. High fever--the baby was 5 mns when she got it and her fever kept going up to 105. Scared the crap out of me and I did call the dr and they had me bring her right in. She was fine, just sick.
