When could your dc wipe themselves? Sorry if tmi!

I'm curious as to how long i'll be wiping my son's bottom. It's not a big deal, but I was curious. When was your child able to completely going to the bathroom by themselves? No fair counting attempting ! When do they actually wipe themselves clean with the tp (toilet paper) or fc (family cloth) without any help from you?

DS has been wiping himself since he was 26 mo old, about a month after he PL'd. I have to say TMI that he is the cleanest pooper I know so it isn't a hard feet.

Well a few weeks ago on DD #1's fourth birthday she said, can I wipe my own butt? I said sure, as long as you do a good job. And she has done it almost every time since.

My little guy is almost 4 (end of April) and we're just now working on it. DH says I babied him too long, but now with me on bedrest we're letting him have some independence. We are using flushable wipes though till he gets the hang of it, and he wipes and I check, and he usually does fine on his own.

Wink Re: When could your dc wipe themselves? Sorry if tmi!

Hi,
I saw this on your posts - just letting u know - i had this same question.

then i saw this supernanny episode and there was a 10yo who did not do it themselves... kinda freaked me out. SN said they have to learn. they might make mistakes at first, but they'll get it eventually.

I took that to mean, when there is no more poop on the underwear, then they are getting it right! I bleach all his undies so i dont worry.

My oldest just turned 4 - he seems finally able to reach around - I had to really kind of make his hand do it to show him a few times, we practiced, etc. Finally I just started saying - go ahead and do it, you can do it yourself. and walked away. I do get upset if he leaves the bathroom w/o wiping, etc. (if for some reason I know) but he'll figure it out!

Re: When could your dc wipe themselves? Sorry if tmi!

We didn't stop helping dd wipe until she turned 5. She would sometimes do it herself before then though. Ds1 is 4.5 and we're still wiping him, but I think he could probably handle it by now. He had a broken arm this past fall so of course we had to help him a lot then; he's got full range of motion back now so I think we could probably start getting him to do it himself now. It's a hard habit to break though! We teach our children to politely ask "Please may I have help wiping?" without yelling too loudly (preferably they give us a heads-up that they are going into the bathroom so we know to listen). Ds2 is 3 and I think it'll be a long time before he's ready to wipe himself. We struggle EVERY day just to get him to try to pull his own pants up. Ds1 is very independent, and ds2 is a TOTAL opposite!

Somewhere between 3 and 4 years. He takes a shower/bath everyday not because he can't wipe but I think little boys get pretty dirty during the day. So I never really worried if he missed a little because the shower would get it at the end of the day.
