Re: Very new to cloth diapering...a few questions for the experts

you can just cut up the towels and use them. or just buy those huge packs of washcloths that walmart has. i use the wipes some of the wahms here make. but i do know some mamas just use terry washcloths! for a nb though 2 sided flannel wipes are the best IMO, soft and very thin so you can easily get into those little folds! missmindi has them on sale in wahmwares 3for $1 right now, i LOVE hers!
yes microfiber towels are great as pocket stuffers! i only have a couple pockets but i do use the towels (and preemie prefolds) inside them. i haven't heard of laying them inside a cover like that though...that seems to me like it could get kinda messy (also you'd most likely HAVE to wash that cover after that if it was a poo diaper). IMO part of the reason a prefold trifolded in a cover works is b/c of all the layers the cover can hold it against baby tightly...a mf towel is so thin i don't think it would stay in place. as a rule of thumb you don't want microfiber directly against baby's skin either, it's very drying, so whenever you use this for extra layers (not in a pocket) just make sure it's not touching baby's bottom. as far as washing, wash it like you wash the rest of your diaper laundry (to avoid buildup on these as well)...once before use should be plenty.

I think the towels will fray if you don't finish the edge. But you can use an old sweatshirt, so I've heard.

Just buy wash cloths... I tried cutting a towel once and didn't hem I had a huge mess in the laundry. I can buy 24 wash cloths for about $3 at the discount store.

Yes, this is right. You can get those thinner washcloths, and they work pretty well. For freshening you can use baby washcloths.
