Blenders - can yours puree/make smoothies?

The only blender I've ever had that could puree hard vegetables was a Vitamixer (not a Vitamix, but a knock-off) from the thrift store. It broke a year ago. And yet the two I've bought since both advertise that they can make smoothies. Can yours handle raw carrots/broccoli/frozen stuff? If so, what is it (the blender)?

... or am I just missing some fundamental theory of how to make blenders work?

The one I have is called a SmoothieKing or something like that and it can make great smoothies out of bananas or strawberries and such but cannot handle carrots, broccoli, etc.

I answered frozen...sorry I can't help you out there!

I have a mini black and decker from walmart for $9.99. I've pureed everything from carrots and cauliflower to simply making bread crumbs.

I have a Cuisinart blender/food processor and it is awesome!!! I put everything in that thing and if the blender wont cut it you just change out the top part and use the food processor.

Mine won't do hard, raw veggies down to a puree, but it does frozen stuff pretty dang good. We've made tons of smoothies. We have an Osterizer from Costco, I saw it on the Price is Right for like $45 but I wanna say I paid $30.

Oooh! Thanks for the price and where-to-buy info -- this looks like something I can definitely afford to try! I've got to start getting more veggies into my diet....

I have a Procter & Gamble "cuisinart" knock off that purees everything. I have never actually tried to use my blender for purees since my fake cuisinart works so well.

One thing that I swear by and love for frozen foods/ fresh fruit/veggies are the Cuisinart Smart Sticks or hand blenders, think they're about $30? I use mine almost every day to make smoothies for the munchkin.

I have a vitamix and that puppy can handle anything!
I put carrots in my smoothies often, and we use all frozen fruit in our smoothies. I even grind grain in it, and grind HARD parmesan cheese (i buy it from a co-op in 2 lb blocks and KILLED a food processor with it before!) .

We have a magic bullet too though and I like it for small easy jobs. But I have killed one of those too.
