Chickenpox vaccine

Would you use the chicken pox vaccine?
We are a fairly traditional vaccinating fam but I declined it when I was in the office last 'cause that would of been 4 vax they wanted to give my baby . My cat doesn't even get that many at a time and I work in a vet clinic!
I'm afraid my DD might be getting chicken pox but if she isn't do you think we should get the vax?

Re: Chickenpox vaccine

the CP vax is only effective for several years. it does not infer lifetime immunity, so just as she is getting to the age where its getting more dangerous to get CP, the vax will be wearing off. it much better for kids to get wild CP and get lifetime immunity than to be shot up every several years and forget as an adult and end up severely ill and hospitalized. The CP vax was developed to protect kids with cancer because on chemo you have no immune system and getting CP could be deadly. It became popular when the government realized they could save tons of money in time off because kids werent getting CP and the parents werent having to stay home from work for a week. there is no real medical need for kids to get the CP vax at all and in all honesty, its detrimental to their health.

Re: Chickenpox vaccine

We declined the CP vax too just because I think it's dumb. If DD hasn't gotten the chicken pox naturally by the time she starts school she will get it then. They need if for school here, otherwise I would wait until she's like 12 to get it. That's when the chicken pox could start getting severe if they get it.

Re: Chickenpox vaccine

Even when I was provax we didn't do chickenpox. It just isn't a big deal and if you vax then you need to get that vax every 4-7yrs for the rest of your life or you will have absolutely no protection. It isn't even that effective when you are fully vaxed though, it is one of the least effective on the market. Plus it is a live virus vax so there is a chance your child will get chickenpox from the vax. And since the introduction of the vax younger children are getting shingles. I'd rather just take my chances with chickenpox. I feel the same way about the flu.

Re: Chickenpox vaccine

My first DD had the cp vax and she had such a bad reaction to it that I will never allow anymore of my children to receive it. She had a high fever for days and constant vomiting. It was horrible, I wish I'd known better at the time...

Re: Chickenpox vaccine

I voted other BC my dd did NOT get the vax and i was hoping on her getting the disease but so far NO "LUCK"since all the kids were vaxed there is no disease(but the children that were vaxed are getting shingles!! ) As she gets older the danger of the disease rises and could potentially be life threatning! IF she does not contract the disease by the time she is 12 yo we will be treating her with the homeopathic vax. same goes for DS. BUT NO VAX @ such a young age IMO its totally unnessicary.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

Re: Chickenpox vaccine

i'm doing every in my power to ensure dd gets the cp at a young age. if she gets to be 13 or so, and hasnt had it and doesnt show any immunity, I'll consider it but not at a young child

Re: Chickenpox vaccine

I am declining it. My ODD got it and I wasn't informed that it was one that they gave her (grrrrr). I am hoping to have her get it the old fashioned way. If she doesn't, stupid Ohio requires it before kindergarten.
I know a lady who had her two eldest vax'd and one ended up in the hospital from it, the other was pretty sick too. Not worth it. If I hadn't switched ped's I may have never known until school that ODD had got it.
