Unhappy omg I think I am going to vomit!

Okay so I have never dealt with this before, but my son has been in daycare and she refuses to use cloth diapers. so I only cloth diaper him at night and the days he doesnt go to daycare. so I use maybe 10 cloth diapers every 5 to 7 days. I hate to do a whole load for 3 diapers so I wait until I have like 8 or 10. well, I let the dirty diapers sit too long (I think 3 or 4 days ) and this morning I went to wash them and there were maggots all over one of my sons diapers! should I throw it away or is it safe to wash and reuse? WWYD?

Re: omg I think I am going to vomit!

Another mama just posted about this yesterday, If there is no mold, I would do a hot wash with detergent and bleach and do 2 cold rinses and throw them in the dryer when they're done. Do you rinse the poop off, are you putting wet diapers in the pail? If the weather is hot, I think maggots will grow,I am not sure mama.

Take it outside and shake/hose off the maggots and wash on hot. No biggie.

Re: omg I think I am going to vomit!

I would throw the diaper away.

Might I suggest this product? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20

It is basically a small electric washing machine. You have to empty and fill it by hand, but it washes great and you can use it to wash only a few diapers at a time. I find it very useful for when DD has had a big bowel movement. I just throw everything in there and rinse it, throw the poopy water into the toilet, then wash it, then rinse a few times in clean water. I add a bit of GSE to disinfect of course. That way the diaper does not lie around getting all stinky. I also rinse pee diapers in there before I wash them in the larger machine donwstairs (although I have on occasion washed them in the little machine as well). I also have a spinner from the Laundry Alternative. (http://www.laundry-alternative.com/p...pin_Dryer.html) Works great.

Re: omg I think I am going to vomit!

So sorry! I was worried that might happen to me last week when I opened up my diaper pail and a fly came out!!! Thankfully, I wash every other day (every day at that time...my ds just pl'd this week!) so I guess nothing had any time to start growing....

I think I'd probably try to save the diaper. Hose it off outside, wash with bleach, dry in the dryer: same as what everyone else has suggested. GL!

I would at least try to salvage the dipe... I think in this case a very small amt of bleach would be just fine.. if it were my dipe, I think I would run it through a couple of loads before using it again.. best of luck! maggots no fun... anywhere...
