babies and sunscreen
How old does a baby have to be before putting sunscreen on them? And what kind is the best to use? I don't think I ever needed to use sunscreen on my first dd in the first year of her life... so I have no idea what age is too young!

Re: babies and sunscreen
Our doctor said not to use sun screen before 6 months, but we never had to use it either. Ds is almost a year old and now that we live in TX we need to use it. I'd like to know the best kind to use also

Re: babies and sunscreen
We went to Disney World when dd#2 was 3 1/2 months. We asked our pedi about sunblock because we knew sometimes we just wouldn't be able to keep her out of the sun but she was less than the 6 month recommendation. Our pedi said the 6 month recommendation is mostly because they prefer you to keep babies out of the sun when they're little. Sunblock hasn't been tested for young babies but there are no indications it will harm them. Basically he told us - keep her out of the sun if you can but when it isn't possible put sunblock on her. But don't do hands or around the mouth. We only needed it for her a couple of times during a parade or something like that. We mostly kept a hat on her head and a light layer on her arms until it got too warm for even that much.

Re: babies and sunscreen
Oh and as for what kind is best - I can't help you. We used water babies but it was December in Iowa and it was the only option I could find on shelves. If I could have found it I would have done burts bees or something like that personally.

It makes sense. Same reason why you need to use the "baby" vicks rub. I would buy some solarveil to make a blanket/cover to help with sun protection.

Re: babies and sunscreen
We started sunscreen about 7 months when I could not keep ds out of the sun completely. (we have to get out 2x a day for the dog). Anyways, I found a great product that I love by waterbabies I think. It was at walmart and is a roll on tube of sunscreen. It is so nice and small, about 3 inches long. All I had to do was swipe it across his face a few times and I was done. No wiping and making a mess.

Re: babies and sunscreen
I think California Baby may make sunscreen. It may be gentle enough to use on little ones.
