What language glitches do your toddlers have?

My dd has picked up the strangest glitch in the last two weeks: She replaces miscellaneous nouns (that she knows perfectly well) with the word "color," resulting in sentences like, "Mama will get the green color" and "Do you want that color?" and "I'm wearing a red color." During the same time, she's started calling all of her stuffed toys "animals," so I think she just somehow has the idea that "color" is a legitimate universal noun. What fun language issues do your toddlers have?

Re: What language glitches do your toddlers have?

My DD mispronounces a lot of words in the same manner:

Shoes = oossh
side= eyessde
fish = ifsh
socks = osks

I begin to wonder if this is a legitimate issue or just something she'll grow out of. We're still at the one word sentence stage.

My parents always called our stuffed toys 'animals' too. Prb because most of them where animals. Does someone she knows ever call them animals? She prb just picked it up from them.

We might have generalized once or twice -- "pick up your stuffed animals" if 95% of the toys out were animals -- but that's it. I think she's just generalizing herself, and not getting it quite right.

Re: What language glitches do your toddlers have?

My 23 month old likes to drop the last syllable or double the first.

Mac'n'cheese=macmac
W (double-u)=douba

He's suddenly got a fascination with letter recognition and it always pointing them out. Kind of funny, we've never pressed the alphabet at all.

Oh he also thinks, "A" is a-b.

I love that stage where letters become important!

Arabella says "poke a lots" for polka dots and it's too cute to correct.

Oh, and she also likes to add a "y" to the end of things. "I want some poppy corn". "I need some milkey!"

I used to babysit a little girl who was 4 and every time something exciting happened we would say "hip-hip-hooray!" And she would join in saying "hippy-for-hay!"
