You prep them to remove excess oils from the cotton to increase absorbency. Also, it softens the material for your baby's bum.

Re: Boiling prefolds to prep them...a picture tutorial

Thanks for this thread! Just got my first PFs in for my first CDed baby due in June, and the prepping process was intimidating me a little. This sounds much faster & easier!

Re: Boiling prefolds to prep them...a picture tutorial

I've never used Dawn to prep anything, I'm assuming you can just use whatever gentle detergent you normally use and just a little bit ?

I'm on bedrest for 10 more days until my baby arrives, so boiling the two dozen prefolds I just received instead of trying to figure out how to ask someone else to do them via laundry machines is going to help me out SO much.

I am getting 10 charcoal bamboo inserts and was told to boil those to prep them so figured people MUST boil prefolds. Eeeeep, so excited for this very old thread!!!

Re: Boiling prefolds to prep them...a picture tutorial

Bumping this to say thanks! I have 3 dozen prefolds to prep tomorrow and was dreading running the washer/dryer 4-5 times. We recently invested in a huge 20 or 24 qt stock pot, so hopefully I'll be able to do a bunch at once.

Thanks for the great post! I assume this will work regardless of bleached, non bleached, and organic?
