Best detergent for FB's or CD's in general

What is the best kind with the least amount of build-up? I've been using All free & clear but want something that works really well. And I'd PREFER something that I don't have to have shipped (I'm in Maryland). Can you experienced CDing mamas give me some recommendations (and links would be great too if you don't mind!).

TIA!

It really depends on your water. Log on to your local water sanitation department and find out if you have hard water. We do in VA, and have found that the all natural detergents just don't clean well enough. If you don't have hardwater, you might try 7th Generation. It's available at Target.

Check out http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.co...gentbasics.htm for types of detergents.
http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.co...entchoices.htm for brands of detergents.

This is a great web site with information about each detergent and what works best for each type of cloth diaper. We've tried Allen's All Natural and
7th Generation. Both leave the diapers smelling sort of odd. Our water is listed as moderately hard. I do better with Purex Free and Clear and Washing Soda for my inserts and alterate between Allen's and Dawn for my pockets. Good luck!

There is a chart somewhere that lists all the stuff in detergents that cause build up in fleece & hemp...

The two that are safe are Allan's Naturally (most likely you'll have to buy online) & Sun (dirt cheap at Walmart).

Since we use a lot of fleece-lined diapers, we use Allen's Naturally. It does have to be shipped, but it lasts such a long time. Our first quart lasted us almost a year! Now I have a gallon w/pump and I expect it to last until potty-learning.

A word of caution about 7th generation... it has enzymes which react with protiens. It may cause skin irratation.

I think the list is at www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/

My dial up is too slow to search for it tonight.

Whatever you choose, it is good to switch detergents every once in a while to avoid buildup
