ANOTHER car seat thread - help me with my big 2 year old, please :)

Okay, I never thought I'd start a car seat thread, but I've tried searching and am ending up more overwhelmed with unnecessary info...I'm hoping you can help me out here.

I *just* realized that my 2 year old is right at the limit for our Cosco convertible seat. He's right at 40 pounds - I didn't realize that the harness limit was there (my daughter, who I got the seat for, was way smaller than him, so it was never an issue for her).

So I've started hunting online, and I'm so confused and frustrated. Where is a good place to get info on car seats? Babies'r'us has a lot of seats, but doesn't list all the harness limits and stuff. What, oh car-seat-hyenas, is the best (cheaper) seat for a big 2 year old? TIA - you all know everything, so I'm depending on you.

One more question.

Does the Nautilus work rear-facing as well? Thanks...

The nautilus is a forward facing only seat. Are you looking for a convertable seat or a ff only seat?

Well, I guess FF only. I wish I had one seat that could do everything. Now with these two totally different sized kids, I'm gonna end up with a zillion car seats. Who knows what this next one will be.

Thats a big 2 year old! I would think about a Regent. They are expensive, but so big and comfy.

Yeah, I know. And he just keeps getting bigger! I have this little 50th percentile girl and this massive 95th percentile boy. I think he's made out of concrete.

I love the Regent but the Nautilus is much cheaper. I think it looks much better in "person" than it does online. I saw one at Walmart, and was suprised it wasn't as ugly as I thought!!

Regent or Nautilus are probably your best choices, if your looking to not spend a ton of money get the nautilus. He won't need another seat after that, it will take him until he is big enough for a seat belt.

The Nautilus is a great option. The Regent is great too and albeebaby.com has it for $242 with cheap shipping. Another option if you have headrests in the car, is the Cosco/Safety 1st Apex(Alpha Elite, etc). It harnesses to 65lbs and can be found for less than the Nautilus. The Nautilus is a great option because it turns into a great booster. It may or may not be the very last seat because he is so young. It expires 6 years from the DOM, which will get him to about 8. At that time, he MIGHT still need a booster. At his age, there really is no last seat. You could get the Nautilus and use it for DS until he outgrows the harness or until the new LO needs it and then get a booster for DS, usually less than $60. Then pass that booster to the new LO. That would almost get your through. You will also want to check your current Cosco for a date of manufacture or a stamped expiration.
