Tell me about Edmonton!
Hi ladies,
I am hoping that some of you who live in Edmonton could help me out. My husband *may* be accepting a job there, if it's offered, and I want to know what we could potentially be getting ourselves into. -- What's the weather like? I know it's cold and snowy for much of the year. Is it difficult/depressing, or are there lots of indoor things to do to save your sanity during the cold months? -- What's the average cost of heating a house between 1200 - 1800 sq feet? -- What's the best area of town to live? (We would be renting.) -- What do you love about Edmonton? -- What do you hate about Edmonton? -- Any Edmonton homeschoolers? Thanks!

Missing my soldier!!!
|
We are a couple hours away but housing is comparable and we are in the city a lot with medical appointments.
Our gas bill is around $100/month and electric is the same. Houses are crazy-expensive though, rent or purchasing. I love that there is soooo much to do! Any city that has a zoo, Ikea AND a super-cool mall is tops in my book. ![]() I hate the traffic and the conditions of the roads. You have potholes or construction delays. lol Drivers are pretty considerate though. I've been in Grande Prairie for the weekend and the drivers here are SCARY!! Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

Re: Tell me about Edmonton!
Thanks for your reply! I've been looking at rentals, and they are more than twice what we pay here. Yikes. But if DH took this job, they have a generous housing allowance, which would cover most of it. Edmonton has an IKEA and a zoo? Good to know!
I already knew about the huge mall, and that is a plus.

Re: Tell me about Edmonton!
I've never lived there but it is easily my favourite city in Alberta. I find the atmosphere to be far superior to what is found in other major cities (thinking specifically of Calgary and Toronto). I'd move there in a heartbeat if given the opportunity!

Re: Tell me about Edmonton!
Thanks for replying! It's good to hear even from people who have just been there...I have never even visited before.
