Question for non-vaxers
DD #1 had all her vaccinations already, at her 2 year well baby, they told me some of them were done a few days too early (1 mmr, 1 hep, and 2 other ones i cant remember) and would need to be redone. I refused to let them redo them. They told me that if I didn't get them redone, she wouldn't be able to start school when she was ready. What do you do in that situation? I mean, when school is starting... They said that legally she had to have all her vaccinations up to date or she cannot enter public school.

Re: Question for non-vaxers
Totally untrue! All you have to do is get a vax exemption for from the state. At least, that's how it's done in Texas!

Re: Question for non-vaxers
They're actually quibbling about a few days???? For heaven's sake.
Request that they draw antibody titer levels. I know that if those are high enough that she won't need more shots and that should be enough for her to enter school.

Re: Question for non-vaxers
you just fill out an exemption when the time comes. It is not a big deal. Here in co it's as easy as flipping over the shot record and signing one of the three exemptions.... medical, religious or philosophical.

Re: Question for non-vaxers
Exemptions aren't a big deal....in VA you pretty much only have the religious exemption option, but noone is legally allowed to ask you what religion you are.

Re: Question for non-vaxers
She CAN go to school. I can't believe they're telling you she has to have them re-done because they were a few days early?? Talk about WAY too much! And then they'd want her to have her boosters on top of that in a couple of years? Umm, no. I don't think it's necessary.
My DD just started K and we did have her vax'd on schedule because I didn't know any better, but we DID NOT have her boosters done and won't. I typed up a religious exemption form, but when I took it in to school, all I had to do was sign the back of her vax card that the school keeps on file and that was it. No questions asked, no crazy looks. Nada. |
