Formula Pouring out of ds's mouth when taking a bottle...
Any mamas have any suggestions for this? He's been taking a bottle after each nursing for 1.5 weeks, and the past few days we've moved more towards only bottle/formula vs. supplementing only. The milk just squirts and sometimes pours out the side of his mouth when taking a bottle, he can wet a 6X6 wipe in one feeding with it under his chin. He's also often gassy.
He's using platex ventaire advanced and platex nursers with drop ins. Both are the slow flow wide mouth natural nipples. Any reccomendations on which bottle to try?? I'd like to switch to something easier than the ventaire's anyway. I'm leaning towards Avent, or something similar (we don't heat formula in the bottle so no worries there).... He takes a soothie pacifier if that matters. Any advice is welcome!! Thanks!

Re: Formula Pouring out of ds's mouth when taking a bottle...
Definately sounds like the flow is too much, I would look for something with a nipple that is slow flow and maybe close to same shape as his paci? Not sure what else to suggest momma. Hope you find something that will work better. Probably trial and error, buy one bottle first to make sure it works well for you then buy more so you don't waste a bunch of $. Good Luck!

Thank you mama! Now to find a slower flow one... the platex is suppose to be pretty slow flow (it is the nb slow flow size too).

Good luck, maybe try the avent or anything with a silicone nipple, (the drop ins have some too i believe) I think you have to suck a little harder cus it is firmer than the latex so that might slow things down. Sorry I am not more help.

We had the same problem and tested about a zillion bottles before we just decided to use the soothie brand bottles. They come with a super slow nipple which should resolve the issue of too much coming out.

If you buy the 5 oz bottle they come with the stage 1 nipples. But, you do have to buy the wide neck ones.

Re: Formula Pouring out of ds's mouth when taking a bottle...
I didn't like the playtex bottles! With my daughter... I used Dr Browns... Avent... and NUK. I let her decide what she liked and didn't. Honestly, I wouldn't really suggest Avent with the problems you are having. And I really wouldn't suggest soothie... my dd was breast fed and we tried soothie first and it made her sick because it didn't reduce the air enough and the shape was ackward for her. I would suggest Dr Browns or NUK both reduce the air a lot better than Avent... plus... I know my daughter didn't like the shape of the nipple on the avent much. Dr Browns takes a lot to get them clean because of all the pieces... but it's worth it for the air reduction... however... since the milk is pouring out of your lo mouth... I am going to say to try the NUK wide mouth bottles. My daughter LOVED them... it reduces air... and it is an easy shape for a baby who has been breast fed or is very small. Good luck!

Re: Formula Pouring out of ds's mouth when taking a bottle...
Thanks mama. If ds doesn't do well with the soothie one I bought I'll try the Gerber Nuk. That's what a baby I babysat last year took.
I gave him the soothie bottle last feeding and he did much better than with the platex ones. He still had milk on his chin but no milk pouring/spilling out. He didn't mind it and he's been content all evening. YAY! Thank you so much mamas.
