Great article! Since my LO was born and we got such bad nursing advice (I don't think we would still be nursing if I had continued to follow the LC's advice), I've wondered why people don't ever sue for the loss of the nursing relationship. I felt very much like the bad advice I got was based on fear of litigation from the results of not using artificial milk, so why shouldn't the medical community be afraid of litigation for the results from using artificial milk due to their failure to support and educate the nursing pair.

I know it would probably be too hard to prove culpability in the loss of the nursing relationship, but I think until something like that happens many medical professionals will not have any impetus to change the way they deal with the new nursing family.

Great article! I was nursing over the carseat in the car yesterday and I said to my 16 year old bother "Isn't this great?" and he replied "no, it's normal!" I loved it becuase when I was pregnant he was saying that I should pump and feed her through a bottle becuase breastfeeding is disgusting.

That was pretty powerful. Thanks for sharing. My 6 year old son sees nursing as abnormal. He's asked me a few times when are you going to start feeding sister formula. I told him that mommy's milk is made just for baby. That babies are supposed to be fed mommy's milk just like piggies drink their mommy's milk, puppies their mommy's milk, etc. I hope that got through to him.

Great article!! I wish more people saw nursing as normal instead of breastfeeding as best. BTW I hate the word breastfeeding!!
