i don't want to wean...

Oh I just want to cry! I am an Army Reserve Soldier, my MOS is a medic and this summer I have to go to a school for 2 wks in Des Moines, IA. I absolutely have to go. I had originally scheduled this school for the time my dh has block leave (he is coming home from a tour in Iraq in the beginning of May) so we could take a mini vacation and all go. Well now the school is the middle of August and there is no way dh can take leave again plus we will be PCS'ing in the beginning of September. My MIL offered to take the kids but Faith will only be 14 months old, if I am gone for 2 wks she will wean! I'm not ready and I highly doubt she will be ready, plus she doesn't know my MIL that well...I just don't want to put her in that kind of a situation! I guess my only hope to get someone to take 2 wks out of their lives and come to Iowa with me and Faith and watch her while I'm doing this school...I can't stand of the thought of her weaning so soon

Maybe if you pumped to keep your supply up, you don't have to wean her, as when you get home she will want mommy again.

Oh no

Dont they understand your DH is gone and there is "nobody" to watch the kids? Ugh!

I wish I lived close Mama, I would so help! Maybe I could fly out

Dont worry you will figure something out!

Could MIL come with you? Or a close friend?

Unfortunately I played that card already, I got out of 6 months of drill, but now they are on me and this is why this school is unavoidable! I'm sure something will work out, a sweet mama already pm'ed me and that made me feel SO much better But i have a couple months to prepare!

Re: i don't want to wean...

I know a mod on another board I belong to went to France for a couple of weeks when her lo was two years old. She pumped to keep up her supply and they picked back up right where they left off. So, I don't think being gone would automatically mean that she would wean if you could pump to keep your supply. Good luck and

Re: i don't want to wean...

I honestly thought my DD would wean after my 2 hospitalizations in Feb and March. #1 was 6 days and #2 was 10 days. When I got out the first time, she REFUSED to look at me. When we got home and went to bed, she yelled "NA NAS!!!!!!" and nursed for 5-7 mins before popping off and passing out. She was 28mo. With #2 she again wasn't too pleased with me but with #2 she was able to see me twice while I was in there. And this time she nursed but not as agressively. She was 29 mo.

I think it has helped with her weaning process to know that she CAN survive not attached to me. But it has also made her wary of ER's.

I have heard that kids who have to "take a break" from nursing can go back. If you make sure she gets her mama milk in some other form I think it would easier for her to return to the breast when you get back.

Feed your children human milk as long as possible, it might save their life. It did my son's.
