AHH! Washer build up?
Im having the hardest time washing dipes. SO MANY BUBBLES and I only use 1/4 cap of sportwash.... I really think its my washer, but what do you do about that? Strip it everytime before you wash dipes? That seems like a waste of water. I stopped using liquid softener last week on my other clothes but I do use tide or era with my other clothes.
What to do???? Im on rinse 4 and wash 2 for my 12 FB's. This is happening every time I wash............ |

Re: AHH! Washer build up?
I don't think you would have to strip your washer every time. Have you stripped it at all? I stripped my washer once and quit using fabric softener and I haven't had any probs since.
Also I'd try on the next wash just washing without any detergent. It sounds gross, but if you use Tide with your other clothes, there is probably enough leftover to get your dipes clean. Or just use Dawn. That's what I'm doing now and it works great! |

Re: AHH! Washer build up?
Are you sure you arent using too much detargent in your other loads?
Do you have a top or front loader? We have a front loader and we use fabric softern in our other loads and have never had a problem... I only use 2 tablespoons of detargent in all regular loads and 1tblspn in the diaper loads with a squirt of dish soap on the diapers themselves (& vinegar in the rinse) |

Re: AHH! Washer build up?
I have a Fisher & Paykel washer and they actually describe that buildup of fabric softener as "scrud." The washer is made in New Zealand I think, so maybe it's a regional word, but it's so fitting! The owners manual strongly discourages the use of fabric softener even though there is a dispenser. Even after one load with FS it's very "scruddy." I wash towels in very hot water with some Charlie's soap before I do diapers to try to get rid of the buildup. Oh, and we have really hard water so I've started using a little bit of liquid Calgon water softener in the FS dispenser so it dispenses in the rinse cycle instead of just the wash cycle. (Taylor at Charlie's Soap told me about this).
