I was having the same problem. Firefox with adblockplus saved me! =) I was seriously thinking about just not coming to DS anymore... It's quite ridiculous.

I switched my default browser to FF, too. I noticed it really helps my internet go much faster!!!

Any answer on why this is happening? It's happened to me already today (but only once, an improvement!)

I always had a prob with IE and now only use firefox.

The Admins have seen this thread but I have not posted here yet as I do not have a solution at the moment. This of course should not be happening and when I figure out why, I'll post it up here.

OMG-I just came here to post the SAME thing. And guess what? I use firefox at home and IE at work. It happens on BOTH PLACES. And it's not the ads-I'm a site supporter and don't see the ads. It's probably some crazy virus. It ONLY happens on DS (and I visit a LOT of sites).

Is this just happening in Internet Explorer?

What error does it give you?

Is there a particular ad that you see on the page before it shuts down?

it says something to the effect of windows needs to close internet, the one where you can send the issue to microsoft or click dont send.
