However, I didn't know the liners could have other chemicals/hormones though. *sighs* So many things to check on to see if an item is safe for your baby when we should be living in a world where all baby stuff SHOULD be safe and not marketed just for extra $$.

Until more than one study says that they're unsafe, they are considered safe. There have been dozens if not hundreds of studies on PolyCarbonate plastics that say that while they have BPAs, they need to be seriously abused to start leeching BPA, and even then the levels leeched are so minute they're not harmful. ONE study says that they still have to be abused to leech, but that the level leeched is harmful. One study is cause for further investigation, but not recriminations or recalls.

To put this into perspective, there are more studies that say that cloth diapers are as harmful to the environment as 'sposies than there are studies that say that polycarbonates are unsafe for use as food containers. Until there's more evidence to back this up, I'd hesitate to give it any credit, no matter what the media is saying. Especially when you consider that the scientist involved only started testing polycarbonates because he failed to regulate the controls in another study.

Hey Mommas....you have a right to your own opinion....however just be aware that the risk of BPA is REAL....that is why Canada just announced a full out Ban on this chemical. This decision is a costly one for many companies and as such was only decided after MANY studies showed the risk. ( of breast and prostrate cancer in later life) It might not be too long until the US decides to do the same. Unfortunately, there are many unsafe, toxic products out there that cause much harm...long before they are removed from the marketplace.

Re: how safe are the playtex drop in liners

Every where I have read says that the drop-in are safe.

BPA is in the bottle Playtex part but that isnt a big deal since it doesn't touch the liquid in any way so it cant leach anything into the liquid. But the plastic dropin part is safe. That would explain why everything Playtex was pulled because the actual holder isn't not BPA free.

We use the Playtex drop in system here

Cheryle, where in Regina did you go? I just went to Toys R Us to get one of the Avent magic trainer sippy cups (cuz we use Avent and the trainer cups don't have BPA in them) and they still had the Playtex dropins available, it was the other kind.. Advance or something... the one that the formula goes right in the bottle... that they took off the shelves. I'm pretty sure they still had the liners I wasn't focused on Playtex at the time though so I could be wrong
