Re: BF'd DD No #2 for 1 wk - HELP!

Has she had any formula at all? Or vitamin supplements? Either of those can really bind them up.

Re: BF'd DD No #2 for 1 wk - HELP!

Bfed babies should not get constipated. I would call the dr and make an appt. She should not have a hard stomach. She might have something else going on. But it is very normal for a bfed baby to go weeks without pooping. I was never so lucky lol.

The straining and hard stomach is not good, even in a formula fed baby and I would take her in. (((hugs)))

Re: BF'd DD No #2 for 1 wk - HELP!

Have you heard of the "I Love You" massage? ( ILU )
You are massaging over the colon. (Pour some oil on lower abdomen, and lay baby on a thick towel) So you start on the "exit side" with the "I" stroke, then you work up to the "L" stroke, end with the "U" stroke. I would google for a picture or video demo. Try Dr. Sears site.....it might be there. Also, work his legs. Move his knees up to his chest, etc. Also, try some tummy time with a back massage.

HTH, good luck mama!!!!

I have never hear that Karo syrup could have botulism in it but I does work. I always just put a little in a bottle with some water. It doesn't take very much (like maybe a teaspoon) It works quickly and gently.

Re: BF'd DD No #2 for 1 wk - HELP!

Well, yesterday I couldn't get her to nurse while we were out - don't know if too distracted, hurting or what. so i gave her some organic pear juice... we got home and BOOM - she unloaded in the living room floor after a major feeding. Idk if the pear juice is what worked or the fact she hadn't nursed in 3+ hours, so i was extra full and she drained me major - that was the cause. either way - YAY! lol. She's been acting so much happier since then! I think I'll just let her be from now on - until it hits 7 days, then break out the pear juice again..... Anyhoo- glad to hear she's pretty normal tho - my MIL gets freaked out when doesn't go everyday....

Yay for baby Reese!!!!

My DD went about 11 days w/o pooping around Reese's age. And boy when it came, there were TONS! She is 5 mos now and no solids yet. She goes every 3 or so days (sometimes everyday).

FTR, Karo does not contain botulism, honey can.

Who woulda thought we'd be so excited about poop? LOL..

Glad your little one is feeling better.

Also, I dont think karo syrup is a botulism issue.. I thought it was honey.

Re: BF'd DD No #2 for 1 wk - HELP!

Grace has been routinely going 6-8 days between pooping since before 2 months old(she's nearly 4 months now). Just this past time she went 12days. I actually mark it on the calendar as an event so I can keep track of it now! But she seems relatively happy as long as she's being nursed and held like usual. I think it's just her. She's exclusively breastfed.

Re: BF'd DD No #2 for 1 wk - HELP!

My Lo went 2 1/2 WEEKS w/out pooing! We ended up at a GI specialist - just for him to tell me the EBF don't have to go all the time. We did Karo (worked the 1st time - not after that) & prune juice (never worked) , but it was the supp's that made him go. He started going on his own a little over a week ago! Eli's belly has never been hard, though. The specialist said that if they are constipated (hard stools), not to go past 7 days. It can affect the nervous system some how. Not sure how, though! I'm glad the pear juice worked - I hadn't heard of that!
I did hear also from a friend that if Babe isn't getting enough nutrition - using up all the milk - they won't go poo.
