That time of the month and BF

My period came back for the first time since DD2 was born today She's still BF and I want her to stop when she's ready, which she doesn't seem to be yet. My question for those of you who have been through this before is did your period coming back cause your milk to dry up?

Re: That time of the month and BF

I saw only the very slightest dip in my milk during my actual period (I've only had one since November 2006, praise be!), but no problem at all otherwise.

I never saw a difference either. AF came back after 3mths pp with both of my kids. I nursed dd for a year and ds for 7 1/2 mths with no probs!

It shouldn't cause your milk supply to dry up, though you may notice a supply dip leading up to your period. If this happens, you might consider a calcium/magnesium supplement:

Personally, I never felt a huge change. Sometimes it seemed that my kids were nursing a bit more each month before my period, but nothing to worry about.

Re: That time of the month and BF

I just came here looking for info on this.
AF came back and was here last week and my supply took a HUGE dip. Like...I'm only pumping 1/3 what I used to at work....and LO's blood work came back that she's dehydrated (she has to get daily blood tests for all her meds she's on).
I'm devastated. I just had to give her a bottle tonight before I put her to bed...and DH had to give her 2 oz of formula today

For those of you that saw a dip, how long did it last?

Re: That time of the month and BF

I've had my period several times already (but never at any predictable time) and the only side-effect I've noticed is that my nipples are more sensitive. Other than that, everything seems fine and the baby eats normally and seems content.

Re: That time of the month and BF

I have a problem with my supply when I start my period. It lasts for a couple of days and then everything goes back to normal. My doc told me to to double up on my prenatal vitamins at the first sign period was going to start. So far it has worked.
