I messed up, what should I do? (storing milk)
OK, I don't know where my head was this morning.
I pumped into some storage bags (10 oz!), and I just put them in the freezer directly. I continued to pump another couple ounces (I know it's a lot!). While finishing up, I realized, I was supposed to put the bags in the fridge first. I took them out of the freezer and put them in the fridge. They had been in the freezer for about 20 minutes on top of some other bags of milk. What should I do? Should I throw the milk out? Should I throw the milk that it was laying on out? Thanks for the advice! |

If they did not freeze I would think the milk would be just fine. Why did you need to put it in the fridge first?

Re: I messed up, what should I do? (storing milk)
Really doesn't sound like a big deal to me. I've often put milk directly into the freezer. I've never heard of refrigerating it first.
As far as the bags in the freezer that had warm milk on them for 20 minutes, I doubt they would have thawed enough to worry about. My non-expert opinion? Don't worry about it!

I've been told by Lac Cons. not to put warm milk directly into the freezer. I was told to chill it in the fridge first, and then in the freezer.

Quote:
If you are just putting a new container full of milk away it is fine right into the freezer. |

Why is that? Just curious. I've always put mine directly in the freezer (except when I was pumping at work).
