When did poo turn seedy?

Sorry nak. When did your newborns poo turn yellow and seedy? Ds is a week old today and while he does have 2-4 poopy diapers a day it is still dark. Its not thick and black like meconium - its soft and runny but its like a greenish brown color. He pees good and has plenty of pee diapers so I don't think he's not getting enough just wondering why his poop isn't yellow yet? Just newborn mother concerns I guess, its been almost 3 yrs since I've had a newborn.

Re: When did poo turn seedy?

Does he have jaundice? He may still be eliminating the bilirubin. Try going to http://www.drjacknewman.com and watch the video/read about breast compression. This can increase hind milk. The "seeds" are fat globules that are undigested because they are "extra" that the baby's body hasn't used. Make sure the baby is being nursed at least every two and a half hours during the day and that he's staying awake and actively sucking and swallowing for at least 5-10 minutes on each breast. If he's just going to the breast, sucking a few times and going to sleep, it's possible he's not getting enough calories, but is still getting enough to avoid dehydration. HTH!

i was going to ask about jaundice. we battled jaundice until DS2 was a few weeks old, and it wasnt until his bili numbers settled down that his poo turned into yellow/seedy. until then it ranged from green to brown in color

Re: When did poo turn seedy?

He didn't have jaundice in the hospital (level 3 at first check and 5 at discharge) and the home nurse came on Tuesday and said that he was ok. She said he looked a little yellow but it was day 4 and that is when jaundice peaks. So I would think he is ok right?

Re: When did poo turn seedy?

oh. yeah. i wouldnt worry mama. If he was a 'little yellow' on Tuesday, he's probably still pumping out that bili. Completely normal.
I definitely wouldnt be worried yet.
