Insurance still won't cover me

I posted a bit ago about my ins not covering my midwife/birth center and mentioned that the law here says they have to. Well they are using the excuse that they have a comparbale service! IMO, the midwives in the doctor practice are no better than the docs. And there is NO comparison between a hospital birth and a water birth at the birth center. Looks like I will be paying for it because I refuse to go back to a hospital birth!

Insurance companies are the pits! They never do what's in the best interests of their clients!

I would call them again, and tell them that if they don't pay that you will be formally complaining about them to the insurance commissioner’s office. If they don't, then I would go ahead and file a complaint w/ them and they will start an investigation.

I have had to do this, since almost half of my hospital bill for my birth wasn't paid for.

i hate INSURANCE. seriously. its all about what is cheaper.

im thinking about just paying for a midwife right now. our insurance wont cover my old ob whom i loved. i saw a crappy ob yesterday. him and his staff were terrible.

it'll work out.

I would do a written appeal, maybe that would work. That stinks!!!

That's the thing. This is SO much cheaper. Paying out of pocket will cost me a little over $5000. That is so much less than a hospital birth.

Not when you consider the fact that insurance companies bargain down the price. The "list" price of my induction, hospital birth, and 3 nights, nearly 4 days of being in the hospital was $11097.84. My insurance company paid $3100. I paid $100. The hospital wrote off $7897.84. Maybe m/w's and birthing centers don't play bargaining games like that.

FWIW, the bill for my hospital stay with DD was only around $1700 (including induction and epidural).... I paid 10% of that, so I'm quite sure of the amount. I was SHOCKED it was so little. My OB's fees were a bit more..at $1900.

When I had DS though, my hospital bill was something close to $8k I think.... but they held us hostage for 3 days and that really racked up the bill.

Wow. When I had Madison it was well over $8k, I don't remember with Morgan.
