Re: Insurance still won't cover me

yeah the birth of riley only cost us 13 bucks lol the bill was orginally 13 something thousand. we owed over a grand, but couldnt pay it off in 6 months through a payment plan so they gave us a low income family thing and we only owed 13.00. and by ob fees were like 940 or something.

but now, we have such crappy insurance and my options are severly limited and im not happy at all with my supposed "choices" that Im willing to shell out the cash for a mw.

If it makes you feel better, when I have my next one, it will be under different insurance. I'll have to pay $1500-$2000 out of pocket, most likely, even with insurance coverage.

Re: Insurance still won't cover me

My DD's birth (induction, 1 night stay) was $3,500.

But...they never billed insurance for some reason, and when she was 5 y.o. they started garnishing my wages because of it! It was a nightmare, because I never even knew that the bill existed (they admitted that they had never contacted me about it until they started the garnishing process).

Anyway, it all got worked out...but they didn't get paid from me or from insurance because they waited 5 years to try to collect the $$!

Have you checked to see if they will cover *any* of the expense as an "out of network" provider? Sometimes they will cover a lesser percentage that way...for us it's 85% I think.

Re: Insurance still won't cover me

well I don't feel it is right of them to refuse me. In fact it seems like that may be against the law for them to do since it says they have to cover you. I know they may have comperable hospital coverage, but that is not what YOU want, you want to have your baby at home with a midwife.

I would ask to speak with someone higher up. tell them flat out that if you want a midwife they have to cover you and that is what you want. PERIOD. If it is not done then you will file reports.

Sorry to rant, this is really just making me angry.

why shoudl they care anyway?? they will be saving money this way in the long run

Ok, I just called and they are sending me a copy of the letter they sent the MW. On it will be an address to write to for a second appeal(the mw already appealled once.) So, now I just need to know what else I can possibly write to them that she didn't already say.

do you have her letter?? she may have been nice, unfortunately you may have to get crabby with them and spout off facts about how it is their legal duty to cover you if it is what you choose and if not there will be consequences.

put your foot down!!!
