Re: Tell me what the doc. can tell about pos. PG today

Yup...17 weeks! We were not planning (was on the pill) so it was a shocker to say the least! I felt that ole familiar movement which you cannot mistake for anything else and I freaked...got an at home test and it came up positive immediately....almost passed out! Called the doctor that day flipping out and they took me right in the next morning for an US.....not only did I find out that I was pregnant, but that I was 17 weeks along AND that I was having a baby girl!!! Then to top it all off she was born 5 weeks early....it was the shortest pregnancy ever!

My office has the vaginal one right in the office...not the regular one. I believe some offices do have the regular ones. But, from what I understand, if you are very early the vaginal one is better at detecting an early pregnancy.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get what you want!

Wow Linda, that is a short PG LOL

Ya, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this office has a full U/S machine in the office so I didn't have to go elsewhere for that one Maybe I will get to see a bean in there today

I didn't know they could tell by an internal exam that you're pg - how about that?! You learn something new every day!

I hope your doctor can get you some answers. I would definitely ask for a quantitative blood test, though. Just to be sure. Depending on how far along you are, the internal u/s may or may not be useful. I recall reading that they're useless before either 5 or 6 weeks.

Good luck!

I would ask for the BW as well. They will probably do a pee test & if its negative they might just tell you to wait it out. A vaginal u/s this early isnt going to show much if anything since hcg isnt even registering on a hpt yet. And if you've already been pg & had kids, your cervix etc has already changed colors so it might be way too early to tell by that too. Seriously if you really want to know ASAP, then bw is the way to go.

I think they should make a way to be able to get your HCG numbers at home! LOL! seriously! I would SOOOOO leave my docs alone if I could just prick my finger and drop a drop of blood on a thing, and find out my HCG!

Oh, that and a window to my uterus so I could just take a peek when I wanted to make sure it was ok...

Oh, and my own personal OB to follow me around with a doppler if the window got to steamy and I coudlnt' see the baby (or you know, If i had clothes on and couldn't just check) then my ob would just pull out the doppler and put my mind at ease...

ahhh, a girl can dream!

I suggest the bloodwork. <5 is negative, 5-25 (at most labs) is borderline, and 25+ is considered positive.

HUGS! Can't wait to hear what the results are. I think it's about 11:15 there, I think you're EST, right?

You can rent a doppler for home use. I did with my last pg for about 10 weeks.

I paid $32/month to rent one that I could hook up to the computer and save the sound bytes. There were cheaper ones, but I wanted to be able to have that ability to record it for posterity: Heartbeats

I rented from Baby Beat. Once I could feel DD, I returned it. But it was worth every penny for that peace of mind, especially since I had already been through a m/c after seeing the heartbeat on an u/s.

ETA: My doctors said it would be fine. They said they wouldn't recommend using it all day long, but once a day was okay for a short period of time. I usually used it 2-3 times/week.
