Re: nursing lying down??

I used to cradle DS to nurse, then after he was latched, I would sort of scoot his body down parallel to mine, then scootch down until I was laying down and he was supported on my arm. Now, I just lay him on the bed on his side (or sometimes he prefers his back and he just turns his head) and plop one in lol. If I want to nurse from my top breast, I just turn my body a little more so I'm more on my tummy, he opens his mouth, and I line it up. We've become pros at it - thank goodness! This is the best way to get him to sleep at night now, and it's the only way I get ANY sleep during the night because he's started waking back up again every few hours to nurse.

Re: nursing lying down??

oh my, i would be miserable if i couldn't nurse lying down!! seriously, i do not know how people w ebf twins do not cosleep! anyway, i lay on my side, bottom arm under my pillow/head & a thicker pillow behind my back so that i do not roll away from the baby, thinner pillow between my knees. sometimes the baby is on her side too, facing me, head (mouth) at the height of my breast. other times, she is on her back & just turns her head toward me - this is a little less comfy for me, but who cares when you're exhausted. when she is done, she releases & rolls away. I think the biggest thing is to be really comfortable & relaxed, GL!!

Re: nursing lying down??

We are just starting to become pretty comfortable nursing this way. What I do now is I have my arm underneath of DS to raise him up to my boob, and to help support his head. (I always wake up with my arm asleep though if I don't move it out of the way after he get gets latched on). Before we were able to nurse this way, I would lay on my back, and lay DS on top of me tummy to tummy, and it seemed to be easier for us both.

Oh you've got a really little one! I couldn't get my daughter to nurse laying down in a correct position until she was big enough. She was about 6 months old when we started to nurse laying down.

Re: nursing lying down??

side lying is my favorite position...it's comfortable and lazy.

lay on your side (like on a couch or bed), pull out your breast, put baby on breast. I have larger boobs so maybe it was easier for me.

Re: nursing lying down??

When my youngest DS was smaller, I would nurse on my side with my arm up and under my pillow. The first link below shows a great picture of this position. I used one of those little foam sleep wedge positioner things behind his back, so he wouldn't roll away. Sometimes I put a pillow behind my back.

Later and to this day, I prefer to put my arm under his head. His head is in the crook of my arm like the crade position, except we are laying down. You can do that position by starting out sitting up and then laying down. I like it because I know he has not gone anywhere if I fall asleep.

Re: nursing lying down??

I lay on me side then put DD on top of a pillow next to me laying on her side. Then I slip my arm under the pillow and nuzzle her against me to latch on.
