Re: did your 12 mo old have a lead test?

Mine wasn't, but we had a list of questions to answer and DD was not at risk so they didn't recommend testing her.

In Maryland the children are tested at 12 months then again at 24 months.

Hmmm...we didn't have the test. He was getting too many shots that day and they said it was okay not to as our home is 11 years old and where I work the house is only 2 years old. My parents condo is newer, too.
Our water and all has been tested bu not Joey.

I have never had a dr request it. I had to do it for WIC. I personally don't think it is neccessary. I don't like having to hold the baby while they poke him with a needle.

Re: did your 12 mo old have a lead test?

I think we do it at 9 months for all of our dc. They check for anemia at the same time. For youngest dd, it was pushed off a bit and done at about a year because they were deciding whether or not to run additional blood tests and didn't want her to have to get stuck an extra time. We live in a newer house (thought we didn't when oldest ds was born) so I am not too concerned about the lead, but two of my dc are anemic but not iron deficient (can't really do anything about it but I guess its good to know).

We did decline the lead test when it was offered for one of my older kids a year or so ago, possibly at age 5 but I'm not quite sure which kid it was. No lead paint in the house, and my ped basically said he was required to offer it, but we could just not go. I will probably take ds2 though this year when he turns five for some blood tests, to at least check if he is still anemic as he hasn't had blood drawn in a few years.

Re: did your 12 mo old have a lead test?

Bruce was tested when he was one. I want them to do it agian at his two year check up. We live in a house that's either 100 years old or a bit older. So, lead really scares me.

Re: did your 12 mo old have a lead test?

Wow, I hadn't even thought of that. Maybe it's not required in Texas? Most of the housing here is just not that old. We lived in brand new construction when DD was born and now our house is not even 10 years old. Guess I'll add it to the list of ?s for the next checkup

Re: did your 12 mo old have a lead test?

We live in an area w/ a lot of older homes so we've always had the kids tested and like the PP said, w/ WIC you have to and my first 3 I had WIC. My last 2 I haven't but one wasn't tested and one isn't 12 mos yet.

Same here. No risk, so the test wasn't necessary.

Re: did your 12 mo old have a lead test?

I live in a house built in the 40's and my girls have never been tested. There are certain symptoms and if they don't exhibit them, my ped doesn't worry about it. DD #2 has never had iron checked either though and being breastfed she should.
