Misuse of an USPS envelope

I recieved my item inside one of them(the free ones) except it was turned inside out. I guess the postal office figured it out and when I recieved the package I had to pay the difference ( It was only a couple dollars but I do not think this should be done at all. I have pm'd this person but have not heard from her yet. Is this common practice?? Isn't it considred mail fraud?

Two of my last 5 packages have come that way!! I was upset about it b/c it IS mail fraud, and in my opinion, stealing. The post office provides packaging for priority mail to encourage you to pay for priority - not so you can steal supplies and still send your item off for under $2. If people keep doing this it will probably mean higher rates for the rest of us honest people.

Yeah you are not allowed to do that, the sender should refund you the money you had to pay. There have been many discussions on the board about how you cannot do this, yet some people either still don't know or just don't seem to care.

That's too bad. It is pretty common. I reused one the other day (one that been shipped to me backwards when I got caught with no mailers!) Wrong, yes, but the first time and I wouldn't do it again.

I would expect that the other mother would reimburse you the money that you had to cover the dfiference. After that, I woulnd't make a big deal out of it.

You can REuse them, I think, but you can't take a NEW one and turn it inside out.

I don't think there is anything wrong with reusing them - but I think if your caught there needs to be markings on the inside that shows it was sent before! Otherwise, the post office can charge you for it. The packages I got were not reused, they were new envelopes flipped inside out.

Re: Misuse of an USPS envelope

According to the USPS even resuding a Priority mailer requires you to pay priority postage...

Don't feel bad. I found out b/c my package got damaged & it was put in a plastic bag by the USPS w/a note explaining "sorry it was damaged in transit blah blah" & then a blurb about the priority mailers required priority postage requardless of whether they were previously used or not. I had "recycled" the mailer that my mom had sent me before & just covered it in brown paper & sent it out to someone. I'd have never known.
