Booster ready?

My son just turned 5. He meets all of these with a yes (http://thecarseatlady.com/booster-seats/)
He does not fall asleep in the car and he is in general a very rule oriented person (meaning: if I say you are not to play with the belt bc it is unsafe, he will not play with the belt). Is there any reason to keep him in 5pt harness? I'm okay keeping him in 5pt harness seat (he has a radian) but the crotch buckle is really starting to get snug (if that makes sense). We are taking our one big road trip that we take each yr (this year will be 4-5hrs in a car--ie. the only time he may fall asleep in the car) and when we come back I am thinking of getting him a booster. Reason to wait? Or go for it?
Eta: he is 45lbs if that matters..and very tall

Re: Booster ready?

Using a FF harnessed seat does not offer any safety advantage compared to a high back booster. Contrary to popular beliefs there are no stats, data, research or real life experiences showing harnessed seats to be better.

There is no problem for a child to fall asleep in a HBB. Adjust recline so that head is resting comfortably against the head support.
