BFing MUST haves =]

Hey Ladies!

I am REALLY wanting to BF #2 who is due in July.
I did w/ DD #1 but sadly my milk didnt really come in after my c/s. I took herble stuff along w/ med my LC gave me.

I already have a pump which I plan to use mainly just to keep my milk up IF it comes in. (Avent Duo)

What are other must haves for BFing?

i LOVE my Medela PIS to help relieve my over active let down the first! and for quickly expressing milk JIC something happened and i couldnt nurse, i always keep milk in the deep chest freezer. i LOVE my boppy, LOVE IT! i still use it when i nurse samonia, mainly bc she loves it so much! Also, www.motherlove.com nursing nipple cream, its not so sticky like lanolin and it always helped my nipples stay supple and not painful! goodluck mama, and i would LOVE to help you if you need it, just a PM away!

Gosh, I don't think you *really* need anything, that's one of the wonderful things about bf'ing, KWIM? That said, for the early days, I really liked my Soothies (gel pads that are cooling & soothing on the nips - I got them at the lactation center at my hospital), and I also have been using my Boppy for years now.. And a good supportive sleep bra is helpful. And remember, bf works on supply & demand, so in the early days, get that babe to the breast whenever he/she even appears to be slightly hungry - the more stimulation, the more milk.

In the beginning...Lansinoh, Nursing Pads, Nursing Pillow, a few good bras, sleep and daytime. I love the motherhood sleep bra and bravado for the daytime.

Good luck to you mama!!! I hope all goes great.

i also drank the mother's milk tea - i even use it now if i need to pump for time away from her. not sure if it is mind over matter, but it helps.

i agree w/ other, a boppy, water and soothies.

i also could not live w/o gerber cloth diapers as burp clothes! awesome! they make great tissue for me too when i need to sneeze and didn't want to wake the baby :-)

nursing bras, nursing pads... a nursing pillow is nice, but if you don't want to buy one, a regular pillow works just as well.

Good luck

The only thing that I can think of actually needing, is a few nursing tank tops. It covers the post partum belly and it flaps down easily when the time comes to nurse. I honestly don't think that the Boppy or Brest Friend is necessary. I always just did it on my own and the BFing pillows seemed to just get in the way. For the heavy letdown in the beginning, I would also get some nursing pads to avoid embarrassing leakage that might happen. Last thing you want is to take off your jacket at an amusement park and you have two huge circles on your shirt!
