Birth plans

Does anyone have their birth plans written up?? I didnt do one for my first but know a lot more this time around what I want and what I dont want so I am trying to write a birth plan. I dont want to sound rude or anything and I feel thats how I am coming off. I have talked to my dr. about it and he says everything I want is fine and will follow it.

hi mama, go to earth mama angel baby website and they have a pretty easy form that helps you make a nice birth plan. HTH

Yup - I had one for my son's birth and the twins. There are some websites that have good forms, look around if earth mama angel baby doesn't have everything you want. They're out there!
You're nt being rude, they should want you to have the birth experience you desire (or close to it)!

Re: Birth plans

For my senior thesis paper I did a huge research project on birth plans. We presented to a hospital to try and get them to have each mom have one. We were told basically most moms have one, but it's not written down. We kind of got the run around - KWIM. If you just do a general search "birth plans" you can find a lot of websites that will have forms, or questionaires so you can make a birth plan.

Re: Birth plans

I had one with my first dd, and basically my ob justed looked at it and said, well some of this we can do and some probably not, we'll just have to wait and see. They never asked about it again and her birth went nothing like my birth plan, except that I didn't want an epi, but I had a lot of stuff going on with having HELLP syndrome.

I stupidly went back to the same ob office with ds and of course was never asked about a birth plan with him, but it would not have mattered, he came so quickly there wasn't much time to do anything.

With this baby, I am seeing a midwife and she wants me to bring in my birthplan at my next visit, so we can go over it together, which is a much different experience for me.

I think a birthplan is a good idea, even if you don't get a chance to use it, because it helps you look at all the options and know what is available. Otherwise I would feel stressed and even pressured to maybe do something or allow something, just because I hadn't thought about it before.

Re: Birth plans

Thanks everyone. I went to earth angle and made my plan. That form was exacly what I needed. Most of the things I want are common procedure at our hospital so there should be any problems except that I dont want the eye drops and vitK and I dont know what the hospital is going to say about that.

Re: Birth plans

Ok, doula coming out in me....

Have your doc look over it and SIGN It. Your dic is not likely to be at the hospital until the very end. and nurses have certain things they do, just to do them, so if your doc has signed your birthplan, you wil have better luck dealing with nurses....

I have attened births where the plan was signed and it went a TON smoother, than the plan where a mom just pretty much gave it to the nurse. The nurse rolled her eyes, and was like whatever..

Also if you want to eat or whatever in labor, put htat on your plan. I can assure you that if an emergency came about, and you needed a c section they woulnt NOT do it because you had sonething to eat. You need food for energy and starving a woman in labor is just silly....

Good luck!!!
