My twins are 3 months old and completely breastfed. They are happy and growing. The problem is, though, that it has been almost a week since they pooped last. They don't seem distressed, or fussy. They have smelly gas, but no poop. Once thy do go, it's not runny with the cottage cheese that they did when they were first born. It is kind of yellowy orange and a little thicker. Not as thick as peanut butter, but not watery either. They also spit up a lot more than any of my previous children. I figured this was because they each eat on 1 breast (I feed them at the same time) and so they aren't forced to take a break to burp between breasts and just gulp it down.

Is this something I should be concearned about? Am I not drinking enough water? Am I eating something that I shouldn't. Please don't tell me to give up dairy
One of my twins was like this. It is completely normal. As long as they aren't in pain it should be fine. Some breastfed babies only poop once a week. I freaked out with my twins too and I also had breasfed 3 kids before them. My twins spit up more than my other children too. Try keeping them upright for 20-30 minutes after eating. HTH

Re: Constipated Breastfed Twins

I had the same situation w/my singleton - except, she rarely ate and it made sense that she kept all of her milk and didn't poop for two weeks... it explained how she maintained her weight.

But now, my twins are pulling the same thing... I could have written your poop description word for word. And, unlike my oldest - these two eat a ton! They do complain about the gas though (and so do I! ). Etta goes every 4 days or so and Grace a little more frequently.

NAK - please excuse errors

i find they spit up more on the days they finally poop - or when very gassy. the extra activity causes reflux like behavior
