My DS is jealous of my pump!

DS (12mos) has had a cold, and hasn't been nursing much at all during the day lately. So I've been pumping a couple times a day when I get really full to keep my supply up for when he is feeling better.

He sees me using the pump, and he gets REALLY jealous - he will try to push it away, saying "NaNaNaNa, NumaNumaNumaNum! (then he smacks his lips a few times for good measure)". But when I try to nurse him, he will take just a suck or two, and be done (stuffy nose, I think, combined with not wanting to bother, since he nurses ok at night even with the stuffy nose). The second I start pumping again, he starts getting posessive .

Anyone else have dcs who don't like to share with a pump?!

Re: My DS is jealous of my pump!

Thanks - I'll definately give it a try!
The best solution, all around, would be if ds would just nurse on his own (no more pump as competition). He won't take the pumped milk from a bottle or cup, so it just sits in the freezer...forever...lol.

I don't have any advice... but my DS makes the "Nee nee nee" sound when he wants his boobies too... how do they DO that?

You might want to try saline solution as well. It will help him breathe so that he can nurse which will solve both of your problems! HTH!

That is too cute!!! Samuel (my first) wouldn't do bottles or sippys, either, but he never showed jealously towards the pump. Your DS just believes those are HIS!

Re: My DS is jealous of my pump!

We've been doing the saline and suctioning before nursing pretty regularly, but it doesn't always seem to help.

I am going to get some vaporub this evening and try that - he nursed to go down for his nap, which he hasn't done in several days, so things might be getting better.

Every time he does his little "NaNaNaNa - NumaNumaNumaNum" with the little smacking noises after, it absolutely MELTS my heart. I honestly never thought when I got pg that I'd even consider bfing past a year (that was before ds and LLL and seeing how many people do), but I just can't imagine how I could possibly wean him!

Vicks makes a baby vapor rub. Its really great.

My ds is jealous of the pump too. He actually has learned how to shut if off when I have to pump which isn't too often but he defintley doesn't like it LOL
Its so cute how they learn where there food comes from and claim them as there own.
