they r fine to eat if they are black out side. its when its mushy and leaving liquid slime in ur freezer or on the banana u wanna toss them. as a child i was never allowed popsicles so we had frozen bananas as treats. also if u are gonna freeze bananas u can use the frozen ones in banana bread..

The bananas are fine, but you don't want to thaw them unless they are going in a banana bread. Also a note; when you freeze bananas, peel them first, otherwise you will have a heck of a time getting it off.

For other veggies, I would go one step further on the lettuce, and say all leafy veggies. You may have noticed that frozen spinach comes out slimy? That is, unless you don't mind the sliminess, or its going in a baked dish like lasagna. This also includes soft leafy herbs like basil and cilantro. You can dry these though to keep them. Some harder leafed herbs freeze ok though like rosemary or lime leaf.

I dont think pasta freezes very well unless it is in a sauce and you undercook it.

Whole strawberries. They will thaw mushy. So good for baby food or making desserts where you will mash them anyways. But don't plan on freezing them whole in season to enjoy later.

Re: what foods do not freeze well?

Alton Brown (the food network guy) said something about the chemical process that turns bananas black, and it just had to do with releasing the sugars in the banana & making it sweeter, but I don't remember the specifics because my pregnant brain has been baked today.

Re: what foods do not freeze well?

I've had some success in freezing diced/chopped carrots that get used later in soups or stews. When I get carrots at a really good price, I'll chop them up and blanch them before freezing in Ziploc bags... Here's a link:
