Cloth Diapering through Meconium?

I'm due to have my 3rd baby in a few weeks and I plan on CD'ing this one from birth. My other 2 I didn't start until a few months after the birth. And then I only used cloth about 1/2 the time.

I have a ? re: the initial meconium phase....does it wash out? Or stain the dipes?

Stains. Bad. I'd recommend using a fleece lay over to keep it off your dipes if you're worried about stains. Just buy an eighth or quarter yard of cheap fleece at the fabric store, cut it into rectangles and lay it over your dipe inner. There's no need to hem/serge/zigzag the edges because fleece doesn't unravel. They will also help keep wetness off baby's bum.

Yes it does stain. DS had more than most because he was jaundiced and we had to deal with this longer. We just used the sposies that the hospital provided until it passed, they gave us 2 full bags of 40. But it is personal choice.

My DS is 2 months and he is my 2nd newborn to CD. I never had any problems with the mec staining at all. I have a harder time with bf poop staining. hth

fleece liners or flushable liners. . . also, someone mentioned on another thread that if you rub some olive oil on baby's bum after a change, before putting on another dipe it will keep the poo from sticking. I haven't tried it, but cool!

Olive oil keeps the mec from sticking to the baby's bum, not the diaper.

I used to be an L&D nurse, and I have mec stains on a few of my scrub jackets that won't even bleach out. *sigh* I've been missing coming home all yucked up with vernix, mec, amniotic fluid. LOL, really it's the miracle and wonder of the birthing process I miss. I wouldn't go back to that department now for all the political bs though. I went down and rocked some babes in the nursery the other night on my break though. Good stress reducer. Sorry for the thread hijack. Memories...all alone in the moonlight....

It does stain, but a simple fleece liner in the diaper helps a lot and any stains fade with time and sun.

Wow! I never heard anyone say it stain until now! It did NOT stain for us. It was the BFed poos that stained, but those came out by laying them wet out in the sun

I've cd'd 4 kids from birth, and I've never had meconium stain. In my experience, toddler poop stains WAY worse than meconium ever did.
