So...What's wrong with me?

Okay...I'm almost finished with round 2 of Diflucan (tomorrow is my last day). I tried nursing DD a couple days ago, and after about 5 minutes, it hurt to the point that if I didn't take her off, I would be close to crying in sev more minutes. I'm going to try to nurse her when she wakes up to see how much it hurts. I mean, it shouldn't still be hurting to nurse her after almost 3 months and 2 rounds of Diflucan. My breasts are tender when I touch them, and at times it's uncomfortable to pump. Everything looks and feels normal. I think I'm going to call my OB tomorrow. It's just really frustrating and because of the pain, I want to quit BFing.

Mastitis, possibly? I had a bout of that several months ago and my whole breast was tender to the touch. I also ran a fever and felt kinda flu-ish.

Have you not nursed her since the time you tried and it hurt? If not, that can make it worse. The best thing for mastitis, which is usually caused by a plugged duct, is to nurse through it, often...it helps release the plug. I would definitely call your OB. Breastfeeding shouldn't hurt. If you do have mastitis, sometimes it takes a round of antibiotics to get rid of it.

Re: So...What's wrong with me?

I am just about to start a round of diflucan for me DH and baby. If that doesn't solve my problem, I don't know what will. I think we all have yeast problems. I guess we are in the same boat. Today I have been thinking that maybe this is a plugged duct. It seems like nursing hurts at first but gets easier the longer she nurses. I think I have done more deep breathing lately than i did in labor. Karen

Contact a lactation consultant! Your DD's latch may not be right.
