Re: Trying to lose weight while breastfeeding

I've done WW several times while BFing with no problems. I wouldn't start before your milk supply is well established (I think I've seen 6-8 weeks as the recommendation plus your body may need the extra calories from pregnancy and childbirth). WW is great because they give you extra calories for nursing and it really keeps me from overeating. I was loosing about 1 lb each week after the first couple weeks where I lost 3-5 lbs. That's pretty much what they recommend.

Re: Trying to lose weight while breastfeeding

In my opinion, doing WW while breastfeeding will super-charge your weight loss! I joined in February, and in 3 months I was 30 lbs. lighter!! At the time I was breastfeeding throughout the night and 3-4 times a day (a 9-11 month old). I cheated and didn't follow the daily point value for nursing moms. By doing that, I lost weight very quickly. My milk supply did not diminish at all. I think that if you are just starting out nursing, then it might be a good idea to follow that nursing mothers guideline. But my milk has been established for awhile now. Good luck!

Re: Trying to lose weight while breastfeeding

Oh you mom's encourage me. I so want to be able to loose this baby weight. I made excuses with myself when I had DS. I managed to be 7 lbs from pp weight before I got pg this time. But I'd like to be able to do it in less than 18 mths this time. You are all right that it is only us who can control this. Thanks for all the encouraging stories of those of you who have done this. I know that when October comes I CAN DO THIS!!
