Re: The rudest comments from my FAMILY!

Its really disheartening to hear those things from the ones that are supposed to be our biggest supporters! Luckily my family seems to be ok, but my friend who I thought was my best friend had some not so nice things to say when I was nursing my 10 month old.

*hugs* to you! and good luck with everything moving and all that stuff.

I agree that people often are insecure about their own decisions and failures and they put you down to make themselves feel better. Considering the obstacles you overcame to successfully BF, she had to look at her own situation and realize that she probably could have given more effort in the that dept.

Wouldn't she have something to say if she saw Colin at 26 m/o and 35 pounds climb up on my lap asking for numma-nummas?

I'm very quick to put my family and DH's in their place when they make negative comments on my parenting style.
I also had a standing nurser.

Re: The rudest comments from my FAMILY!

I think you should say something right then & there. That way you don't have to carry around the hurt feelings w/ you. Just come up w/ an all purpose reply to all negative, judgmental or unsolicited comments on your parenting style. How about, "As the mother of my child I know best and do best for my child." Or specifically for bf, "It has been scientifically proven that bf children have higher IQs, stronger immune systems, less obesity and a host of other benefits. I'm giving the best gift possible to my child." I find that calmly stated, informative response shuts people up pretty quickly!

Ugh, sorry mama! My family is very supportive of breastfeeding, though there's a lot of other crud going on with them that makes me want to move to Mexico so I never have to see them again.

Re: The rudest comments from my FAMILY!

my mom makes comments like that and I know its hard to shrug them off sometimes. My DHs family are absolutely horrid and say stuff like your sisters. (I just consider the source... )

its great you see it all for what it is though and are standing by what you feel comfortable with!
you will wean her when you and her are darn good and ready!
as far as a crutch? tell him next time he says that your going to beat him with it lol

Keep your chin up.
Horse to a trough? Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with.

I wonder what Gianna will call it. Right now she just squeals and pulls my shirt down and signs "more." LOL.

Thank you all so much. I AM doing what is best for my daughter. My ILs were here this week and they are so supportive. My FIL says Gianna looks so healthy and happy and he's proud...and my MIL whom I adore says "she's your child, do what you want with your own child. Don't listen to anyone else!" and shrugs it off. I love her.

Re: The rudest comments from my FAMILY!

Too bad your DH doesn't listen to their (your ILs) positive attitude. In his defense, it is stressful to be the primary breadwinner and if you have to work two jobs... It is even worse because you so rarely get to SEE the family you are providing for.

Sorry to hear you are having a rough time and no one in real life to lean on

We'll listen! So feel free to whine

That is crazy, I've never heard such a horrid comment! Wow!
