"How long are you going to breastfeed?"

Ugh, I HATE this question! MIL asked me this the other day and when I responded, "indefinitely," she winced. Why are some people so concerned with how long a mama is going to BF?

I *et the same thin* so I totally understand the frustration. Even from people who's children are still bottle fed and older than my dau*hter... I don't say anythin* to them so I'm not sure where they *et off questionin* my parentin*
I went to *et my hair cut when Ava was just a little youn*er than a year and the hair dresser thou*ht it was her place to tell me I should stop breastfeedin* "very soon"

For the most part now I just i*nore the comments.. kinda in one ear out the other. I've realised that most times there isn't any point waistin* your breath.

I just take it the same way I take the "aren't you done having kids yet?" question.
We'll be done when we're done thanks...

OOOOHHHH!!! I hate that question too! I really used to get it because my DS was 3 1/2 before he completely stopped! It is SO no ones business! DH was'nt particularly thrilled either. OH well! DD just turned 1 and shows no signs of stopping soon.

LOL

DH and I want "as many kids as the Lord blesses us with the sanity to bear" And this means if we are still joyfully desiring kids after baby #6 and the finances are great, then hooray! hehehehe

I've been very blessed to have such a supportive husband. I've told him "honey, I hope it doesn't bother you if I BF DD when she is 2 in public." and he was like "why would it bother me? Isn't that the best thing for her?" LOL
He is totally excited about me doing whatever needs to happen to BF and have our children naturally. I LOVE HIM! He's all for tandem nursing and nursing while pregnant. Since DD is 1 yr old and we are TTC #2, looks like it'll be tandem nursing for us.

I am just really trying to teach her how to politely ask to nurse. I don't mind nursing her when she is 2 or 3, but I don't want her coming up to me and pulling up my shirt in public, KWIM?

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed?"

My own Mother just asked me this on our way home from Hawaii on Monday - I was sort of afraid to answer, like waiting for her to get all preaching.

But i just said, "When she is ready."
"Oh, so you could be nursing another 2 years." I
simply said "Maybe, we will see."

I figured she would get all on my back . . . but we will see down the line -that may change.

THey ask because they feel your nursing somehow reflects something to them - and/or it makes them think of their own maternal duties and feelings and how and what they did when they had babies. WHen people ask me, I just say "as long as we both agree it's working for us" and if they drag it out more, (and not out of real curiosity - but out of rudeness) Ill be frank and say " I don't see how it makes any difference to you - that USAULLY ends it

"Why, do you want some?" That will usually quiet them up.

Serious answer:

"Until he's finished."

cute.

i got that a lot with Sara. She self-weaned at 22months. I haven't been asked that ONCE with Grace. Suppose they learned their lesson, huh? My ex's grandma even took a picture of me nursing the baby and said how wonderful it was that I was making her so healthy and chubby. This coming from the woman who asked me when I was nursing 4 month old Sara why I wasn't giving her formula yet. And why she wasn't on solids yet. It weirded me out!
