Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed?"

I always said that I would stop when my boys were ready to stop. They ended up self weaning at 18 months. I plan on doing the same thing with our little girl due in Sept.

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed?"

I guess I'm a bit lucky in my family. Whenever someone asks me, I tell them probably at least 2 years or until I'm so sensitive and pregnant that I can't stand it. LOL However, I have an aunt that nursed until her son was 3+, so they're all a bit used to that.

I love that answer!!!! I don't usually get that question, my mom talked about when I was going to wean and I told her when she was ready. My mom has learned to not question my parenting decisions, no matter how weird she thinks they are lol.

And my ped asked me how long I was going to BF and I thought he meant how long a session was and I told him "Until she was done" and he said "Good for you, that's great!" and it was then that I realized he wanted to know my timeframe for nursing

I just reply "Whenever they are ready." or a very non-commital "Sometime..." if I don't appreciate the person's tone.

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed?"

I get asked when are you going to wean instead. With that one it's great. Since she is about 17 months old and eating solids, I tell them that we've already started to wean. Well, we all know weaning starts with solids right? It can take years after their first bite though!
If/when we get asked how long, I tell them to ask the nursling! Then if they do, she'll hear the words nursing, or breastfeeding, or boob... and will point at 'them' and say yummy! Hehhehheh!

When people ask me I respond with, She'll let me know when she's done nursing. They end up looking at me rather perplexed.

dd is 31mo and still nursing. no one says anything anymore. I just get the look and go about my business.

its really nobody's business but yours

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed?"

my mother used to ask me this all the time with DD. i was pretty non-committal in my answer and would just say, "well, at LEAST until she's a year." she ended up self-weaning at 16 months with the latest one, she asked me last time she was visiting how long i planned on BFing this one, and i said "i dunno, at least as long as i did with katie..." to which she replied, "oh, so you'll be weaning him in time to leave for college?" UGH!! granted, she did say it in a joking tone, but it still got under my skin. i don't understand what the big deal is....does it make her feel inadequate or something because she didn't BF me?

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed?"

I've gotten that quite a few times. I've told my Mom that I'm going to breastfeed Annalisse until she leaves for college because it makes losing weight so much easier. That seemed to kind of get her into the idea that it will be a while before she stops breastfeeding. For pretty much everyone else that the joke won't work for, I tell them I'm shooting for at least 2 years since that is the WHO recommendation.
