Preggo and bf'ing - OUCH, the nipples!

So I knew to expect some nipple soreness while bf'ing during this pregnancy. But, OUCH!!!! They are wicked hurting the past week or so, to the point that the past few days, I am dreading our nursing sessions. The pain wears off after the first 30 seconds or so, but they HURT. I almost cried today!

Do you know of any natural balm or salve that might numb or soothe? I've been using Lansinoh, which feels fine, but it doesn't really do anything for the pain. The nipples aren't dry, they are just SORE!

I want to keep going as long as we can, until DS decides to self-wean, so suggestions would be very welcome.

This too, shall pass. For me, it was bad at first, then it went away, then it got kind of bad again towards the end, although not like it is now.

Also, my milk sort of left around 20 weeks. My ds didn't seem to care, but I'll never forget how huge his eyes got when I had that first post-delivery let down with him. He was in heaven lol!

Mindy, that made me laugh!

The interesting thing is, they hurt initially until about 5 weeks into the pregnancy, then it went away, and just came back at 16 weeks.

I'm hoping it will pass!

Is there such a thing as Tylenol salve LOL? J/K (but a natural alternative would be very welcome!)

I wonder if you are producing less, causing ds to suck more vigorously?

Anyway, you could maybe try some lanolin. If nothing else, you will have well moisturized nipples.

That's an interesting idea, Mindy. Maybe that's it! He has been nursing a little less frequently lately and increasing his solid intake. I wonder...

Re: Preggo and bf'ing - OUCH, the nipples!

mine hurt through my entire pregnancy,s ometimes worse than others but always hurt!! the only way i could deal with it was to cut back to nap/bedtime .. no night nursing because i could no longer stay asleep or go back to sleep while DD was nursing.. i had NO milk though from like 12 weeks to 36 weeks.. so i think that made it worse..

Oh my, you are not alone! About 13wks mine started (well the one we use anyway) and for a week now I have used tons of Lanolin w/no relief. I dread nursing , for the first 15seconds. Thankfully we are only bfing about 4times in 24hrs.

Hopefully this passes very soon for us both!
