do you do anything periodically to clean your washer? residue question

I'm fairly new to CDing - our washer isn't exactly brand new. We're moving in June and there will be a really big front loader - ahhhhhh we've had this tiny apt sized stackabe way too long. Anyway, I have been using sportwash and I just ordered some sensiclean - I want to use this as our regular detergent as well to be sure there is no buildup in our washer. We have pretty hard water in San Diego. The water seems much better where we are moving to (monterey, CA). Anyway, do you do anything to cleanout your washer? I know vinegar is supposed to be a big no-no w/ hard water. I'd like to clean out this washer and then start right w/ the new (well, new to us) one.

I know not everyone is a bleach fan, but I run an empty load on hot with a cup of bleach about once a week. When the machine is loading, I scrub the sides and the agitator thing in the middle of the tub. I don't know that it's making a difference, but it makes me *feel* clean. LOL!

Every once in a while (every other month) I run a hot wash with a cup of bleach in there. Cleans it out nice I also take apart the agitator once a year and clean out the link and junk too as well as vacuum out all link and stuff in my dryer yearly

lol, me either, it's a washer, I assumed that if my clothes and dipes are clean my washer is clean too , maybe I should wash my washer.

I'm t hinking I have to clean it b/c I want to make sure I don't have residue buildup. We have really hard water.

Okay, I read the article, but it talks about vinegar - everything I hear says vinegar is a no-no when you have hard water.
